Allah Almighty said in Quran: “And whoever turns away from My remembrance to him there will be a difficult life.” (Quran, 20:124).
With the growing age, depending on the troubles of life, you will see how common depression gets. Depression is a serious illness and should not be ignored. When someone is depressed, the common symptom is how they feel sad, have lost their mental peace and also loss interest in the activities that they once enjoyed doing. With depression comes a number of physical and emotional pain that reduces the ability of a person to enjoy and function.
While the cure of depression varies person to person, given the magnitude of the illness, Islam, as the complete guide of life has certain tips in it that can make fighting depression easier. Keep in mind that none of the tips can cure depression as it is an illness – but it can ease the pain through the teaching provided in Quran and Islam.
1. Recite Surah Duha
According to Sahi Bukhari, there came a point in the life of Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) that he stopped receiving revelations from Allah. Due to this sudden stop, the Prophet (PBUH) became worried and depressed. At that time, the revelation that came from the Almighty was Surah Duha (Quran 93:1-11).
A number of Muslim scholars believe that the revelation of this Surah may be a sign from Almighty as a direct recipe to help battle depression.
2. Seek Forgiveness From Your Sins
Repent on the mistakes you have made, but do not be guilty. Allah is merciful – He wants His people to ask for forgiveness for the sins they have made. Forgiveness gives closure and closure gives happiness.
3. Have Faith In Him
“When you have taken a decision, put your trust in Allah” (Quran 3: 159). Remember Allah on constant basis. Remember that He will always be there to listen to you. Plan on establishing a relationship with Him. When things seem not make any sense, when you feel all the burden of the world is on your shoulders, just remember to He is the planner and He has something planned for His Ummah.
4. Make Dua
“Allah is angry with those who do not ask Him for anything.” (Tirmidhi). Turn your anxiety and fears into concerns that make you offer Dua to the Almighty. Make this as a reason to be close to Him. Allah will listen to you and your prayers will not go away unheard.
Remember these things will not cure depression as it is an illness – but it will make you gain some relief, InshaAllah!
