What Islam Says About A Woman Bringing ‘Rizk’ For Her Husband After Marriage!
In Pakistan, one can often come across sentences like “a woman brings her own rizq (sustenance) in the marriage through her fate” that changes the life of her husband for the better. People narrate stories of how some men found better jobs or their businesses boomed after they got married. However, uptil now, there hasn’t been an Islamic reference that supports such claims, beliefs or ideals; whatever one can call them.
However, the concept of every soul coming into this temporary world with a predestined rizq allotted to it, is definitely valid and exists in Islam. But, the concept of a wife increasing the wealth or improving the fate of her husband through her own rizq isn’t directly mentioned anywhere; at least as far as the research goes. Hence, getting married to increase one’s wealth might just be a false belief with no Quranic or Hadith reference.
Here’s What Quran And Ahadith Say About How Rizq Is Provided:
To Him (Allah) belong the keys (of the treasures) of the heavens and the earth: He enlarges and restricts the sustenance to whom He wills: for He knows full well all things. [Surah Ash-Shuraa, 12]
In another occasion in the same Surah, All says:
Gracious is Allah to His servants: He gives sustenance to whom He Pleases: and He has Power to can carry out His Will. [Surah Ash-Shuraa, 19]
In Surah Ra’d, Allah said regarding sustenance:
Allah doth enlarge or grant by (strict) measure the sustenance (which He Gives) to whom He so Pleases. [Surah Ar-Ra’d, 26]
In Surah Al-An’am, Allah speaks about rizq and things He has prohibited Muslims from:
Say: “Come I will rehearse what Allah hath (really) prohibited you from: join not anything as equal with Him; be good to your parents: kill not your children on a plea of want; We provide sustenance for you and for them; come not nigh to shameful deeds whether open or secret; take not life which Allah hath made sacred except by way of justice and law: thus doth He command you that ye may learn wisdom.”
Even in Hadith, you find the Prophet of Allah SWT says:
Allah’s Messenger (saws), the true and truly inspired said, “(The matter of the Creation of) a human being is put together in the womb of the mother in forty days, and then it becomes a clot of thick blood for a similar period, and then a piece of flesh for a similar period. Then Allah sends an angel who is ordered to write four things: he (the Angel) is ordered to write down its (the baby’s) deeds, its sustenance, its (date of) death, and whether it will be blessed or wretched (in religion). Then the soul is breathed into it…..” [Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 4.430 Narrated by Abdullah bin Musud]
Taking the above ayahs and hadith into consideration, it is evident that Allah has dedicated a certain amount of rizq to souls before they are even sent to this world. But, there is no mention of a woman specifically increasing a man’s wealth. Yes, she may have her own rizq that she brings into the marriage along with her husband’s including the blessings a couple receives upon tying the knot.
However, there has been a mention in the Quran that nikah does indeed increase sustenance.
And marry those among you who are single (i.e. a man who has no wife and the woman who has no husband) and (also marry) the Salihun (pious, fit and capable ones) of your (male) slaves and maid-servants (female slaves). If they be poor, Allah will enrich them out of His Bounty. And Allah is All-Sufficient for His creatures’ needs, All-Knowing (about the state of the people). [Surah Nur, verse: 32]
Allah knows best!
